Commencement May 2013

Today was a happy day for these Pi Gamma Mu Delaware BETA Chapter members! The smiles on their faces say it all!
Judy P. (below) was doubly happy, as she graduated from the graduate counselling program!
So she's wearing her PGM cords for a happy second time!
Congratulations to Dayna L. (shown above with the Chair of the Board of Trustees Mr. DuPont) for being selected as our commencement speaker! Her commencement address did us all proud today.

AND, if that was not enough, congrats to Paula L. (below) who was awarded the student service award today! Sorry I could only get a picture from the back, but here is Paula accepting the award from the Board of Trustees..

Congratulations to all-- so proud of the Mu at Wilmu!!!

Alumni Group Wine Tasting Event

Last night the Alumni Group hosted a wine tasting event at the heritage Vineyard winery in New Jersey.
It was fun to see so many Pi Gamma Mu Alumns present as we all enjoyed a good time sampling various wines!

The Power of Networking Event

Last month, the Pi Gamma Mu Delaware BETA Chapter alumni group hosted their first ever Power of Networking event.
Guest speakers, alumns, and current students showed up and learned to get to know each other as the networked professional connections...
Fantastic food was catered by Second Chance Catering of the Hospitality School, a non-profit started by one of our own PGM alums!
Former PGM BETA Officers Jerome (above, right) and Judy (below, right) were there to show their support!
This event was so successful that plans are already underway for next year!
Go Pi Gamma Mu at Wilmu!!!

Service Projects

I participated in the Susan G Komen 3 Day walk in October 2012. A 3 day 60 mile journey in hopes of finding a cure for breast cancer. My team and I put together a benefit dinner, sold sub tickets, put together a yard sale and many hours of training to raise money for breast cancer. Although we did not walk for anyone person in particular, we decided that we were walking for the "little ladies of the future" so our children hopefully one day can live in a world that is cancer free. The journey was not an easy one at all, it was filled with many emotions. A sense of accomplishment ran through me when I crossed the finish line and knew I walked 60 miles. one of the famous sayings during the 3 day walk is "BLISTERS DON'T NEED CHEMO!!!!"

Service Project

I did my service project hours at the Shepherd Place.  For those of you who are not familiar with the agency, it is a homeless shelter for women and children.  I completed the project over the course of three days. My duties included, sorting clothing and food, a case management intake, and visiting with the residents.

I have a strong desire to help for
these individuals, because they tend to be shunned from society.  Many of them are the victims of domestic violence, loss of employment, or they simply made the wrong choices.  While some may not want to better themselves, others try very hard to turn their situation around and make a better life for themselves and their children.  This is the third time I have worked with the homeless and found each opportunity rewarding. For confidentiality reasons, I was unable to share photos of my experience. ~M.
