Service Project
I did my service project hours at the Shepherd Place. For those of you who are not familiar with the agency, it is a homeless shelter for women and children. I completed the project over the course of three days. My duties included, sorting clothing and food, a case management intake, and visiting with the residents.
I have a strong desire to help for these individuals, because they tend to be shunned from society. Many of them are the victims of domestic violence, loss of employment, or they simply made the wrong choices. While some may not want to better themselves, others try very hard to turn their situation around and make a better life for themselves and their children. This is the third time I have worked with the homeless and found each opportunity rewarding. For confidentiality reasons, I was unable to share photos of my experience. ~M.

In October, I took an amazing journey with my cousin and millions of others as we walked 60 miles in 3 days in an effort to find a cure for breast cancer. This was the most amazing 3 days as millions of strangers became a family as we walked and pushed ourselves to the limit. While the walk was challenging, not to mention the temperature being in the teens, it was worth the while. I even registered to do it again this year! Let me know if you would like to join me in this journey!!! ~Ashley

Dena is the NC Chapter Secretary and participated in the Polar Bear Plunge...

I recently had the opportunity to conduct volunteer service hours with Stand By Me - under the parent company of The Delaware Financial Empowerment Partnership. On Saturday, February 23, 2013, I attended the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) sessions from 9 am to 12 noon. I assisted students and parents in filling out the FAFSA application. This was an exciting and fulfilling time as I watched high school students and current college students continue with their desire in fulfilling their education.

I volunteered 10 hours to Alpha Worship Center's Day of Koinonia, plus an extra 2 hours for the final planning meeting. Koinonia means fellowship. On May 5th, Alpha Worship Center fellowshipped with the community through food, fun, entertainment, and information to build relationships. We had various vendors in attendance and a wonderful concert with a few area artists. My duties involved setting up and breaking down and manning the welcome station. It was beautiful day by way of weather and events. I look forwarding to participating in Day of Koinonia 2013
