January 2013 Commencement

Graduates-to-be look forward to commencement, but faculty also look forward to seeing their students graduate. Commencement is a time for reflection, and when we see our students walk across the stage claiming their degrees, we reflect on the differences between the beginning and the end. The process of education changes a person, and that is by design. The intention of graduation is to "grow" one's mind, and develop a new mindset. Then of course, commencement is the end result in which we get all dressed up in our academic regalia to send our students off into the world! Here is flamboyant Dr. M who wears a purple medieval tam with a long feather to show his staus as a doctoral faculty member.
Most faculty members wear a black tam with a gold tassel.
Pi Gamma Mu members were in full force at today's commencement, as blue and white honor cords could be seen almost everywhere!Proud graduates were all smiles as they waited to process in.
Interesting that everyone is always so happy to graduate...and then what? Did you know that a significant number of students return to school a year later? Guess being a scholar becomes a lifestyle! Besides scholarship, Pi Gamma Mu students are also known for their service to the communities in which they live!
Love it when I can find a crowd of PGM-ers willing to pose with broad smiles!
Equally happy and smiling is the new Dr. S as she wears her doctoral regalia for the first time! Learning and earning degrees is a lifelong effort, so thank you Dr. S. for being such a good example. Congratulations to all!
